Choosing The Right Moisturizer
There are a few skin-care products that absolutely everyone should use on a daily basis. Moisturizer is one of them.
The benefits of moisturizer
Whether your skin is oily, dry or somewhere in between, your skin will appreciate these perks:
- Moisturizer helps the skin hold water.
- It provides a barrier against cold, heat and wind so your skin will be less prone to irritation.
- It balances the skin to reduce excessive oiliness or dryness.
- It will even minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
How to choose the right moisturizer for you
Consider your skin type. If you have dry or mature skin, look for a heavier, oil-based cream. If your skin is oily, combination or normal, you’ll probably benefit from a lighter, water-based moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, look for fragrance-free formulas and soothing ingredients like aloe.
Keep in mind that your skin may behave differently in the summer versus the winter and you may need to change up your moisturizer accordingly. You may also prefer a slightly thicker moisturizer at night.
Layering skin care 101
When it comes to skin-care product order, cleanser should always go first and sunscreen should always go last. Otherwise, layer your products from thinnest to thickest, leaving time in between each step (except after your facial mist) to allow the product to absorb. Here’s an example:
- Facial mist or toner
- Essence
- Serum
- Moisturizer
- Eye cream
If you don’t want to use one of these product types, simply skip it and move to the next step.
How to use a moisturizer
Apply a thin layer of moisturizer, morning and night, from your hairline down to your chest.
